Düsseldorf-based Druckstudio GmbH was one of the gold award winners at the Sappi European Printers of the Year 2008. The company came out tops in the category of “Magazine” for its Drupa Report Nr. 4. It won over the jury with a combination of high-quality offset printing and sophisticated finishing technology. Managing directors Werner Drechsler and Martin Piszczek accepted the coveted award, which pays tribute to print excellence in Europe, at the gala awards ceremony in Hamburg on 31 May.
Druckstudio GmbH submitted an entry for the Sappi European Printers of the Year awards for the first time this year. It convinced the jury with its Drupa Report Nr. 4, which was produced with Sappi’s new Tempo Silk paper on a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74 five-colour machine with inline coating unit and on a Speedmaster SM 52 five-colour press with varnish UV-machine. All kinds of finishing options, such as a special neon fluorescent ink, matte dispersion varnish, UV spot varnish and iriodin varnish, hot foil embossing and special die cutting work were exploited. They all contributed to the Drupa Report’s success. The combination of a high-resolution 140 line/cm hybrid screen and Tempo’s smooth surface enabled excellent reproduction of colour images and text, giving the magazine a silky and elegant look and feel. “Druckstudio made excellent use of the new paper ensuring good bright images and consistent solids throughout,” commented the jury.

The Sappi European Printers of the Year awards are presented in nine different categories. This year, 717 printers from 34 European countries submitted entries. As European gold award winner, Druckstudio GmbH is automatically nominated for a Sappi International Printers of the Year award. The nine gold awards which will be presented there are the most prestigious printing industry awards in the world.
